The Nissan “Leaf” and Ford “Focus EV” are expected to premiere in the United States early 2011.Nissan has an even wilder side as revealed with their “Townpod”. The Nissan Leaf and The Townpod concept car are complete opposites—conservative and not so conservative. The Nissan Leaf is the more conservative of the two. The Leaf has a 24 kWh lithium-ion battery and can travel a 100 miles on one charge. The Leaf comes with a110/120V Trickle charge cable for the onboard charging system. It has a 80kw motor and can hit speeds up to 90 mph. However this all depends on the temperature outside. In 14 degrees in order to travel 62 miles the car would have to be traveling a speed of 15 mph. At 110 degrees temperature you could travel 68 miles at a speed of 49mph. The Leaf plugs into a 110/120 volt outlet but a 220 volt is recommended at an 8 hour charge time. For those in a hurry the Leaf offers a 50 kW DC fast-charge capability with an 80% charge in less than 30 minutes.

The acceleration from 0 to 60 is around 9 seconds. The lighter the vehicle is the faster the acceleration. Compared to the DeZir the Leaf is a much heavier vehicle. It is a 5 passenger car so it is fairly roomy. Compared to the Ford Curve, its much prettier to look at. This has nothing to do with electric, but the automatic temperature control is appreciated.
